Prosecutors sue Rubiales for kissing a soccer player at the 2023 World Cup
Spanish prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against the former head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales. It is reported by the Daily Mail.
The former head of the RFEF, who kissed national football player Jenny Hermoso at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, is charged with sexual assault and coercion. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison.
On August 26, the disciplinary committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) suspended Rubiales for the incident at the World Cup. The suspension is for 90 days.
At the award ceremony, Rubiales put a medal on Spain captain Hermoso and kissed the soccer player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and said that he did it without malicious intent.
