Whims named a candidate for the prize of the best sniper of the NHL regular season

The Daily Faceoff portal has named the top 10 contenders for the Maurice Richard Trophy, an award given annually to the best scorer in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season. Journalist Matt Larkin’s version is available online.

One of the candidates for the prize was the Russian striker of the Minnesota Wild club Kirill Kaprizov. It is located on the tenth line. “The reason he is number 10 on this list is not so much the time he lost due to injury last season, but the lack of an elite center to play with,” the journalist explained.

The main contenders for the award, according to Larkin, are Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton). The list also includes David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins), Mikko Rantanen (Colorado Avalanche), Tage Thompson (Buffalo Sabers), Jason Robertson (Dallas Stars), Cole Cofield Montreal Canadiens and Jack Hughes ( New Jersey Devils).

In the 2022/2023 season, Kaprizov played 67 games in the regular season, in which he scored 75 points – scored 40 goals and gave 35 assists.

The last Russian to receive the Maurice Richard Trophy was Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin. He was named the top scorer of the regular season in 2020. In total, the forward received the award nine times.
