Tutberidze’s student Daria Usacheva announced her retirement at 17
Russian figure skater Daria Usacheva, who trained under the guidance of Eteri Tutberidze, retired at the age of 17. The athlete announced this in an interview with the Okko Sport Editorial YouTube channel.
“I sensibly and adequately assessed my capabilities in professional sports. And I realized that, probably, it’s still not there, ”Usacheva said.
The figure skater also revealed plans for the future. “I had thoughts of entering two universities, getting a second education. Again, not sporty. And so I made such a decision, but I have not regretted it a bit so far, ”she added.
In November 2021, Usacheva was injured during a warm-up at the Grand Prix stage in Japan. She fell during the jump. The doctor of the Russian national team carried her off the ice in her arms. Since then, the figure skater has not performed at any tournament.
Usacheva is the vice-champion of the world among juniors and the bronze medalist of the finals of the junior Grand Prix series. The figure skater also has a silver medal at the US Grand Prix.
