CSKA goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov spoke about the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to remove him from matches for the army team in the Continental Hockey League (KHL). The words of the athlete leads RIA Novosti.
“I didn’t really worry about whether I would be allowed to participate in KHL matches. There was an understanding that I would play, that sooner or later everything would end – this is the most important thing, ”said Fedotov.

On August 14, the IIHF suspended Fedotov for four months, but the KHL still allowed him to play in the league. CSKA banned international transfers for a year. The IIHF refused the army team to register a contract with Fedotov for the new KHL season due to the player’s current agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On July 1, Fedotov signed an agreement with CSKA. Previously, he played for the army team in the 2021/2022 season. The NHL expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as it violates the goaltender’s contract with Philadelphia, concluded in May 2022. At the same time, the Russian tried to fly to the United States, but he was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service.
