Kämna wins in Caravaca de la Cruz and Kuss continues to lead
The German Lennard Kaemna (Bora Hansgrohe) won solo the ninth stage of the Tour of Spain, disputed between Cartagena and Collado de la Cruz de Caravaca, of 184.5 km, in which the American Sepp Kuss (Jumbo Visma) retained the leader’s red jersey.
Although the times were taken 2 km from the finish line due to bad weather that never came, Kamna broke into the top with half a minute over the Italian Matteo Sobrero (Jayco), the immediate pursuer. The favourites, grouped together, signed a draw at that early point and dedicated themselves to finishing the stage without the slightest effort, at a walking pace.
Just Roglic tried to take advantage the auction to scratch a second. The Slovenian took 2 seconds of prizes. Kuss kept the red with 43 seconds over Marc Soler and 1.03 over Lenny Martínez.
In the noble zone, evenepoel is fourth, 5 seconds ahead of Michael Landa and Roglic, while Vingegaard and Enric Mas are 11 seconds away and Juan Ayuso 21.
This Monday the Vuelta will enjoy the first day off and the peloton will move to Valladolid, where activity returns on Tuesday with a 25.8 km time trial. The candidates will face the time trial with minimal differences.
