The IOC explained the non-admission of Russians to the Asian Games-2023 by technical reasons
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) explained the refusal to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Asian Games in 2023. It is reported by TASS.
“The concept of the participation of athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports in the Asian Games 2023, as discussed at the Olympic summit in December 2022, has been studied, but turned out to be unfeasible for technical reasons,” the IOC said.
On September 1, The Indian Express reported that the IOC refused to admit Russian athletes to the Asian Games, despite the fact that the Asian Olympic Council was ready to accept 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus in order to qualify for the Olympic Games. The tournament starts on September 23rd.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be admitted to the competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts. After that, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to the competition.
