US Olympic Committee assesses diplomatic boycott of Beijing Games

The US Olympic Committee has praised President Joe Biden’s support for the diplomatic boycott of the Olympics. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the organization.

“We appreciate the unwavering support of the President and his administration, and we know they will support us from home during the winter,” said US Olympic Committee chief Sarah Hirschland. She added that the US team is ready to make the nation proud.

Earlier, the decision of the United States to declare a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing was commented on by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The organization stressed that the presence of officials and diplomats is a purely political decision of each government, and the IOC, being politically neutral, recognizes this right. The committee approved that the participation of American athletes in the Olympics remains outside of politics.

On December 6, the press secretary of the US President Jen Psaki confirmed that the American leadership will not go to the Olympics in China. At the same time, athletes will be able to independently decide on participation in the competition.
