Ukraine may withdraw from the International Esports Federation due to the admission of Russians
The Ukrainian eSports Federation (UESF) threatened to withdraw from the International eSports Federation (IESF) due to the admission of Russians to tournaments with the national flag. This was reported in the Instagram account (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned)UESF.
The UESF noted that they will hold an emergency meeting on the issue of termination of membership in the IESF. “We cannot be silent in the current situation, because our values and principles are being ignored. We call on other esports organizations to join our protest,” the statement said.
On August 28, IESF allowed Russian teams to compete under the national flag and anthem. It was noted that 32 delegates voted for the removal of the neutral status from the Russians at the congress of the organization, 13 opposed, and 25 abstained.
The ban for Russians to participate in tournaments with national symbols has been in effect since April 2022. During this period, esportsmen performed in a neutral status.
