Russian badminton players will be admitted to tournaments in a neutral status in 2024
The World Badminton Federation (BWF) will allow Russians and Belarusians to compete. This was reported on the website of the organization.
Athletes will be able to return to competition neutral on February 26, 2024. It is noted that in September 2023, Russians and Belarusians will be able to apply for participation in tournaments, after which they will be subject to a comprehensive check, including anti-doping.
“We believe that the decision to lift the disqualification of Russian and Belarusian athletes who meet the criteria for participation as individual neutral athletes is a positive step forward in our efforts to build peace and solidarity,” said BWF President Poul-Erik Heyer.
Russian and Belarusian badminton players, by decision of the BWF, have not taken part in competitions since February 2022. All international tournaments planned in the two countries were also cancelled.
