The Brazilian star Neymar, substituted in the final stretch of the match won by his Seleçao against Serbia (2-0) in the 2022 World Cup, injured his right ankle and left the pitch limping.
Upon returning to the bench, he took off his right foot, removed the stocking and tibia protection. In images taken by photographers from the AFP a visibly swollen area can be seen, formed on the Brazilian’s right ankle.
The Paris Saint-Germain attacker was later filmed limping as he made his way to the dressing room.
Neymar already injured this right ankle in 2019, which forced him to give up playing in the Copa América.
At the Lusail stadium, where the tournament final will be played on December 18, Neymar was very active and even collaborated in defensive work, until his substitution in the 80th minute.
He was indirectly at the origin of the opening of the scoring after having launched Vinicius Jr, whose shot, parried by Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, then allowed Richarlison’s goal.
After repeated physical problems throughout his career, Neymar, who at 30 is playing his third World Cup, started the tournament in great shape after the first months of PSG’s season in French Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
Brazil’s next game is scheduled for Monday, against Switzerland. (D)
