World Athletics has given the right to Russian Natalia Gemperle to play for Switzerland

The International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) gave the right to the Russian runner Natalya Gemperle to compete for Switzerland. It is reported by TASS.

In 2016, the athlete married the Swiss Rolf Gemperle. Thus, she was able to change her sports citizenship to Swiss, as she had lived in this country for more than three years. For Russia, the runner has never performed at track and field starts.

On August 21, World Athletics allowed Russian runner Alsu Bogdanova to compete for the United States. Bogdanova’s previous performance in Russia was in January 2019 in Novocheboksarsk. She finished third in the 3000 meters.

On August 17, the head of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, doubted that Russian athletes would be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. “The Council has taken a clear position, I will be very surprised if it changes. We did this for the integrity of the competition. Of course, we will monitor the situation, we have a working group. It doesn’t look like things will change,” he said.
