Russia responded to Isinbayeva’s appeal to World Athletics

Balakhnichev said he supports Yelena Isinbayeva’s appeal to World Athletics

Former president of the All-Russian Federation of Athletics (VFLA) Valentin Balakhnichev responded to the appeal of two-time Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbayeva to the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics). His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Balakhnichev said that he supported the position of the former athlete. “Her world record has yet to be broken. Why not show goodwill, return to the origins of the Olympic Charter and the origins of the charter of the international federation,” he asked.

Earlier on August 25, Isinbayeva said that she had a great influence on the development of athletics in the world over the past 20 years. She felt that her absence from the World Athletics list of the most influential female athletes in the world proved her greatness.

The World Athletics rankings were compiled on August 21st. The list consists of 40 names. The Russians did not enter it.
