Slovenia coach appreciated the defeat from Russia and remembered the “nightmarish” Dziuba

Slovenia’s head coach Matjaz Kek commented on the team’s defeat against Russia in the 2022 World Cup qualifying match. His words are quoted by TASS.

“In Sochi, Dziuba was my nightmare, but today another team was playing, it became faster and more flexible, it is very difficult to play against such teams. This is reflected in the group’s standings, ”said the coach. He added that he was very disappointed, but nevertheless congratulated the Russian team.

The meeting with Slovenia took place in Maribor and ended with a score of 2: 1. For the Russians, defenders Igor Diveev and Georgy Dzhikia scored goals.

The previous match between the teams took place on March 27, 2021 and ended with the victory of the Russians with a score of 2: 1. Dziuba scored both goals for the national team. Because of this, Kek was glad that the footballer would miss the match in Maribor.

Following the results of eight rounds, Valery Karpin’s team became the leader of Group H, gaining 19 points and overtaking Croatia. The Croats have 17 points in their assets and occupy the second position. Russia has guaranteed itself participation in the World Cup play-offs.
