Coach Myakishev said that Virolainen has the last chance to play in tournaments
Biathlete coach Daria Virolainen Leonid Myakishev explained that his ward changed her sports citizenship from Russian to Finnish. His words are quoted by Match TV.
Myakishev said that for the daughter of the three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova, the transition was the last chance to compete in international tournaments. “We cannot refuse such an opportunity,” he added.
Virolainen won the right to play for Finland in international tournaments on 18 August. The biathlete said that she does not consider herself a traitor. She was selected for the national team based on the results of the qualifying competition. The athlete received Finnish citizenship in 2021.
Virolainen is a former member of the Russian women’s biathlon team. She has two silver medals at the World Cup and a bronze medal at the 2014 European Biathlon Championships.
