Biathlete Daria Virolainen answered a question about betrayal due to the change of sports citizenship from Russian to Finnish. Her words are quoted by Match TV.
The athlete said that she did not consider herself a traitor, as she moved to Finland with her children back in 2016. “I hope people will be understanding. I have another chance to prove myself in the international arena, I want to use it, ”said the daughter of the three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova.
Virolainen won the right to play for Finland in international tournaments on 18 August. She was selected for the national team based on the results of the qualifying competition. The athlete received Finnish citizenship in 2021.
Virolainen is a former member of the Russian women’s biathlon team. She has two silver medals at the World Cup and a bronze medal at the 2014 European Biathlon Championships.
