Deputy Valuev called it normal that the Isinbayeva stadium was renamed
State Duma deputy, former world boxing champion Nikolai Valuev appreciated that the stadium named after two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting Elena Isinbayeva in Makhachkala was renamed. His words are quoted by Sport24.
The politician called the event normal, since Russia has never liked betrayal. “It doesn’t matter what shape or size. This is the result of her words and actions. This is how our society reacts,” he said. According to Valuev, public people should be ready to pay for their statements.
On July 12, El Digital Sur reported that the former athlete lives in Tenerife. Later, on her VKontakte page, Isinbayeva wrote that her awards and military rank from the CSKA sports society were nominal.
After that, the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, advocated renaming the stadium in Makhachkala. It happened on August 21st. Now the arena will be called “Trud”, it had this name until 2017.
