Latvian hockey player “Regle” Rodrigo Abols called the KHL money bloody
Latvian striker of the Swedish “Regle” Rodrigo Abols spoke about the possibility of playing in the Continental Hockey League (KHL). His words are quoted by Hockeysverige with reference to an interview with Helsingborgs Dagblad.
The 27-year-old athlete said that he would not agree to play for KHL clubs even for ten million dollars and called the league’s money bloody. “I’m not interested in making friends with people who are moving there now,” he stressed.
Abols played in the KHL for Dynamo Riga in the 2014/2015 season. As part of the team, he played 14 matches and scored five points.
In March 2023, the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation refused to call up KHL players to the national team. Last season, two representatives of Latvia played in the league: goalkeeper Janis Kalnins, representing Amur Khabarovsk, and forward Nikolai Eliseev from Admiral Vladivostok.
