RFU President Dyukov said it was important to keep representation in UEFA
President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov appreciated the preservation of Russia’s representation in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). His words are reported by “Championship”.
“Certainly, it is important for us. We are glad that we managed to maintain our representation in UEFA committees and bodies,” Dyukov said, adding that he does not follow criticism from Ukraine on this matter.
On August 1, it became known that 15 representatives of Russia took seats in the administrative bodies of UEFA for the period from 2023 to 2027. In response, the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) proposed to remove the Russians from work in order to “adhere to the humanitarian values and justice inherent in the European football family, as well as to ensure the consistency of UEFA’s peacekeeping position.”
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team has lost the opportunity to fight for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
