The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov in Telegram condemned the decisions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in relation to the Russians.
Pozdnyakov reproached the organization for politicizing decisions and ignoring the principles of the Olympic Charter. “Most colleagues from Lausanne, having openly taken the side of the political conflict, are now destroying the integrity of the Olympic movement with their actions and rhetoric. At the same time, the true Olympic principles and values not only do not lose their relevance, but are in demand now more than ever, ”he said.
The head of the ROC stressed that sport should remain out of politics. He added that many statements of foreign sports and political figures, in particular Ukrainian ones, lack consistency. “They will announce a boycott, then they will forbid their own athletes to participate, then they participate, but under some conditions, then they dream of creating an anti-Russian coalition. Lausanne, alas, does not react to all this. That is, he silently approves, ”Pozdnyakov said.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be admitted to the competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts. After that, a number of federations allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to the competition.
