Inside the Games: Sergey Bubka to step down as Vice President of World Athletics

Olympic champion and multiple world pole vault champion Sergei Bubka will leave World Athletics. It is reported by Inside the Games.

Bubka did not run for re-election as First Vice President. He has held this post since 2015. Since 2001, the Ukrainian has also been a member of the governing board of the organization.

In the fall of 2022, Bubka left the position of president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine due to ties with Russia. However, they did not begin to deprive him of membership in the organization, which he had headed since 2005.

Bubka is an Olympic champion and a six-time winner of world championships as part of the USSR and Ukraine national teams. In 2013, he fought for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee, but lost the election to the German Thomas Bach.
