PSV advance and Olympique de Marseille fall by the wayside in the Champions League qualifying round

The third qualifying round of the Champions League moved European football this Tuesday. Among the classifieds of the day, the PSV, who beat Sturm, from Austria, by 3 to 1 after thrashing in the first leg. On the other hand, the Olympic Marseille fell on penalties after winning the return against Panathinaikos, from Greece, by 2 to 1.

PSV scored with Joey Veerman, Luuk de Jong and Ricardo Pepi, from the penalty spot, while William Boving scored for Sturm. On aggregate, the Dutch club passed without suffocation, as they won the first leg by 4-1.

Olympique, on the other hand, was defeated by 1-0 in the first leg and made the minimum score to equal the score in the return, with two goals from Aubameyang. In the final stretch of regulation time, Fotis Ioannidis scored a penalty for the Greek team and forced extra time. Eventually the decision went to penalties, where the Marseille team wasted the first kick and ended up losing by 5 to 3.

Now, the clubs that passed the third qualifying round play the play-off, the last knockout stage before the start of the group stage. The PSV team will face Rangers, from Scotland, in this stage.

The only match left from the third qualifying round is AEK Athens (GRE) vs Dinamo Zagreb (CRO). The duel was postponed due to the death of a Greek fan hours before the first leg. With that, the first game was played only this Tuesday, with the victory of the Greek team by 2 to 1, and the return will be this Saturday, at 15:45 (from Brasilia).
