Ukrainians refused to shake hands with the Russians at the Junior World Championships in wrestling
Ukrainian athletes refused to shake hands with Russians and Belarusians at the Junior World Wrestling Championship. It is reported by “Suspilne Sport”.
During the two competitive days, the Ukrainians met with representatives of Russia and Belarus three times. Alim Mesuvetov lost to Russian Ibragim Kadiev, Vladimir Kochanov defeated Belarusian Alexander Gradovkin, and Ivan Primarchenko was stronger than Vladislav Kozlov.
The Junior World Wrestling Championship takes place in Amman, Jordan. The competition will end on August 20.
On April 4, the executive committee of the United World Wrestling decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. In a statement, the Federation of Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling said that the Russians would compete in a neutral status. It is noted that athletes will be allowed to compete subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
