The telenovela Moisés Caicedo came to an end. O Chelsea announced, this Monday, the arrival of the midfielder, who was at Brighton, also from England. The Ecuadorian signed a contract with the Blues until 2031, with an option to renew for another year.
Liverpool and Chelsea fought over the signing of the athlete, who came very close to reinforcing the Reds. Jurgen Klopp even revealed that Liverpool had an agreement to sign him collectively. However, the player preferred to keep his word, as he was already negotiating with the London club, and thus formalized an eight-year bond.
According to the English press, Chelsea had to spend around 115 million pounds (R$ 713 million at current prices) to hire the midfielder’s services.
The transfer fee paid to Brighton makes Caicedo the most expensive player in Premier League history, surpassing another Chelsea signing – last season, the team paid €121m (about R$670m) to Benfica to bring in Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández.

“I’m delighted to be joining Chelsea. I’m excited to be at this great club and I didn’t have to think twice about accepting the offer when they called me. It’s a dream to be here and I can’t wait to start playing and training with the team.” , declared the Ecuadorian to the team’s channel.
Moisés Caicedo arrived in European football in 2021, when Brighton signed him from Independiente del Valle. However, he had few minutes with the English club and was loaned to a team in Belgium.
It was only in the second half of the 2021/22 season that the midfielder returned from loan and made good the chances he had with Brighton’s shirt, becoming the undisputed holder of the position and, consequently, arousing the interest of European giants.
Last season, Caicedo was on the pitch 43 times, scoring a goal and providing an assist. Now, the Ecuadorian faces a new challenge in his career and arrives to add to Mauricio Pochettino’s team and form a duo with Enzo Fernandez.
