Fetisov called the decision of the IIHF to disqualify the hockey player Fedotov moronic
Two-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov reacted to the disqualification of CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov. His words are quoted by Sport-Express.
“We need to send the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to hell! Let them shove this decision in one place!” he said, calling the sanction moronic. Fetisov expressed bewilderment at the decision, as Russian hockey players have been suspended from international competitions.
The disqualification of Fedotov became known earlier on August 14. It will be valid for four months from September 1st. The IIHF refused CSKA to register a contract with Fedotov for the new season of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) because of the player’s valid agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On July 1, Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA. The NHL expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, which violates the current agreement between the goalkeeper and Philadelphia.
In May 2022, Fedotov signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia. In July of the same year, the hockey player was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service. After that, the player was sent to serve in the Russian Navy, and his contract with the American team was automatically extended for a year.
