O Chelsea reached an agreement with Brighton to hire Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo for 115 million pounds (R$ 713 million at current exchange rates), a record amount in England, the British press reported this Monday (14).
Caicedo, 21 years old, was also wanted by the Liverpoolwhose coach, Jurgen Klopp, even announced an agreement with Brighton last Friday.
But according to the press, the player was not sure about the move and negotiations with the “Reds” ended, until he finally decided to sign an eight-year contract with Chelsea.
The London club, which debuted in English Championship on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool, he expects Caicedo to be ready for the second round game against West Ham next weekend.
If the transfer is confirmed, the Ecuadorian would become the most expensive signing in the history of the Premier League, above the Argentine Enzo Fernández (106.8 million pounds, or R$ 663 million), who left Benfica for Chelsea in early 2023.
Brighton, on the other hand, would make a huge profit with the player, signed for around 4 million pounds (R$ 24 million) from Independiente del Valle in 2021.
Caicedo was not included in the Seagulls’ first game of the season in their 4-1 thrashing of Luton Town on Saturday.
