Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton will start first | Other Sports | sports

The Dutchman Max Verstappen, leader of the F1 world championship with eight points of advantage over the British, will start in third position.

The British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes team) will leave on Sunday from the pole position at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after setting the best time in the qualifying session held this Saturday at the Jeddah street circuit.

Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), world championship leader eight points ahead of Hamilton, will start third, behind another Mercedes driver, Finn Valtteri Bottas.

Verstappen, who this Sunday could be proclaimed world champion, was in a position to achieve the pole in his last attempt, already with the time fulfilled, but he collided with one of the protection barriers of the very fast urban circuit of Yedá and had to settle for third place.

The Dutchman leads Hamilton by 8 points with two races to go and to be champion in Saudi Arabia, which hosts his first Grand Prix in history, he must add 18 points more than the British.

The Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and the Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) completed the Top 5 from the starting grid, while the two Spanish drivers, Fernando Alonso (Alpine) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), did not qualify for Q3 and will start beyond 10th place. (D)
