Vasily Lomachenko pulls out of upcoming fight due to situation in Ukraine
Ukrainian boxer Vasily Lomachenko refused to hold the next fight, in which he was supposed to meet with American Shakur Stevenson. Boxing Social was informed about this by promoter Bob Arum.
According to him, the meeting will not take place this year. “He wants to take a vacation. The bad situation is still going on in Ukraine, and it’s close to where he lives. So he really can’t focus on the fight,” Arum said.
Stevenson himself accused Lomachenko of avoiding a fight with him. He also stated that the Ukrainian was offered the biggest fee in his career.
On May 21, Lomanchenko lost a unanimous decision to Devin Haney. Thus, the American defended the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Organization (WBO), International Boxing Federation (IBF), WBA Super and The Ring world titles.
In total, the 35-year-old Lomachenko won 17 victories and suffered three losses in his career. 26-year-old Stevenson won 20 victories in 20 fights.
