Fitness trainer Prygunov called barbell squats dangerous to health
Master of sports in bodybuilding, fitness trainer Mikhail Prygunov called exercises dangerous to health. His words are reported by Gazeta.Ru.
Prygunov said that one of the most dangerous are squats with a barbell, which give a direct axial load on the spine. He noted that incorrect movements can lead to the formation of a hernia. “During the squat, keep the natural curves in the spine – do not hunch over and do not overextend your back,” the trainer explained.
Another dangerous exercise is the deadlift. According to the specialist, it puts a lot of stress on the extensor muscles of the body and can lead to damage to the intervertebral discs.
Prygunov also emphasized that other speed-strength exercises with weights, for example, jerking the barbell or taking the barbell on the chest, can also have a negative impact on health. He advised to hone the technique of exercises with minimal weight and train the flexibility of all joints and the spine.
Earlier, coach Irina Rotach told how to properly perform barbell squats. To improve safety, she recommended always using safety racks in a power rack, as well as learning how to drop the barbell.
