Sassuolo explained the refusal to sell the player to Spartak by the fact that the club belongs to Russia
General Director of Sassuolo Giovanni Carnevali explained the failure of the transfer of the Brazilian defender of the team Rogerio to Spartak Moscow. It is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
According to the functionary, the Italian club refused to sell the player to the red and white because of their belonging to Russia. “The negotiations were led by his agent, there was a very serious offer of 8 million euros, but we decided not to act. Ethical reasons: we don’t want to deal with the Russians,” Carnevali said.
The CEO of Sassuolo added that the club is not afraid of the prospect of parting with the player for free after his contract expires. “We wanted our conscience to be clear, not to do business with a certain country. And yes, at the cost of losing it for free,” Karnevali said.
Rogerio made 36 Serie A appearances last season, scoring three assists. Portal Transfermarkt estimates its value at 5.5 million euros.
