Rubin tied with Lokomotiv 2:2 in the first match after returning to the RPL
Lokomotiv Moscow played a draw with Rubin Kazan in the match of the first round of the Russian Premier League (RPL) of the 2023/2024 season. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.
The meeting was held in Moscow at the RZD Arena stadium and ended with a score of 2:2. On the third minute, Mirlind Daku, the striker of Kazan, opened the scoring. On the 23rd minute defender Nair Tiknizyan equalized the score. In the 58th minute, Rubin took the lead thanks to a goal from striker Joel Fameye. In the 87th minute, striker Wilson Isidor snatched a draw for the “railwaymen”.
Last season, Lokomotiv finished eighth in the RPL standings with 45 points. Rubin played in the Football National League, for the first time in 19 years, losing its residence in the elite division of the country. Thus, Kazan lost the victory in the first match after returning to the RPL.
In the next round, Lokomotiv will play Fakel Voronezh on the road, while Rubin will host Orenburg. Both meetings will take place on July 30.
