The return leg of the playoffs of Copa Sudamericana between Audax Italiano and Ñublense, which would take place this Thursday night, was postponed due to heavy and constant rain at the Estadio Municipal de Concepción, in Concepción, Chile.
The clash was scheduled to start at 7 pm (Brasília time). However, bad weather and the high amount of water on the stadium’s lawn made it impossible to start the duel. The information is that the rains fall uninterruptedly in the city since 17:00.
The refereeing team waited until 10 pm to make the decision to postpone the match. That is, it took three hours after the scheduled start of the match to do so. The reason for the insistence on trying to start the duel is the tight South American schedule. There is still no set date for the new confrontation.
Conmebol announced that the duel will be held this Friday, at 6 pm (local time) – 7 pm (Brasília time) -, in the city of Rancagua.
The first duel between Audax Italiano and Ñublense
The first clash between compatriot clubs for the playoffs of Sudamericana, which was led by Ñublense, ended in a goalless draw. With that, whoever wins the second game guarantees classification to the round of 16 of the continental tournament. In case of a new tie, the decision will go to the maximum penalties.
Finally, the team that advances from this confrontation will face LDU, from Ecuador, in the next phase of the knockout stage. The Ecuadorian team was the leader of Group A, the same as Botafogo, which took second place. The classified then faces the winner of the match between São Paulo and San Lorenzo, in the quarterfinals.
