Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti was keen to put an end to any controversy over his possible link with the Brazilian Team starting from the 2024 Copa América, guaranteeing this Thursday (20) that he is focused on leading Real Madrid this season.
The statements, made before the first training session of the Spanish team in their pre-season in Los Angeles, California, come two weeks after the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, said that Ancelotti will take over the selection for the Copa America of the United States, which will be played between June 20 and July 14, 2024.
“I’m never going to talk about Brazil, about what’s going to happen. I’m Real Madrid’s coach and I’ll stay here. I’ll never talk about this subject again,” Ancelotti told journalists present at the UCLA university premises.
“I’m not in a hurry to renew because I have a contract until June 30, 2024. I have total confidence in this club. This season has to pass first, we’ll see how this season goes,” said Ancelotti, 64.
Despite not having received a suitable replacement for striker Karim Benzema, who moved to Saudi football, Ancelotti was satisfied with Real Madrid’s squad for next season.
“For me, the squad has improved. We lost a player who was fundamental for years, who is Karim, whom we wish the best and who was a legend at the club, but we have a very young group that we are convinced will bring us a lot of joy”, guaranteed.
The Italian declined to comment on the possibility of Real Madrid signing French star Kylian Mbappé later this season, involved in a contractual conflict with Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappé “is a player who is not at Real”, recalled the coach. “Talking about players who are not here doesn’t seem right to me.”
Ancelotti said he would test a new game scheme to replace Benzema, exploring the offensive potential of signings such as England’s Jude Bellingham and Turkey’s Arda Guler.
Real Madrid will play four pre-season friendlies in the United States, starting this Sunday against Milan at the emblematic Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena.
It will then travel to Texas to face Manchester United in Houston on July 26 and Barcelona in Dallas three days later.
Before returning to Spain, Real will meet Juventus in Orlando, Florida, on 2 August.
