Manchester United officially sign goalkeeper Onana, formerly of Inter Milan

O Manchester United made official the hiring of goalkeeper André Onana this Thursday through an official statement. The Cameroonian arrives from Inter Milan and signs with the English club until June 2028, with the option to renew for another year at the end of the bond.

According to information circulating in the English press, Manchester United would have paid Inter Milan around 51 million euros, plus 4 million in additional, totaling 55 million euros (about R$ 297 million at current prices) to be able to count on the services of the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

Onana declared that United has a long history of amazing goalkeeping and will do everything to create his own legacy over the years in the team. “I am excited to be working with Erik ten Hag again and I cannot wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great club.”

The goalkeeper concluded: “Coming to Manchester United is an honor and I’ve worked all my life to get here. Coming to Old Trafford to save this goal and contribute to the team will be a wonderful experience. It’s the start of a new journey for me, with new ambitions.”

With his arrival at United, Onana will be reunited with coach Erik Ten Hag, who led him during five seasons at Ajax.

Onana joined Inter Milan for free last year after deciding not to renew his contract with the Dutch club. In his only season with the Italian team, he managed to reach the Champions League final, but ended up with the runner-up after the team lost 1-0 to Manchester City. He played 41 games, 19 of them without conceding a goal.

Now, Onana starts a new career stage at Manchester United, which was without a starting goalkeeper due to the departure of Spanish David De Gea, who did not reach an agreement with the club for the renewal of his contract.
