Former Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sarwho suffered a stroke in early July, announced on his Twitter account that he has left the intensive care unit (ICU) and expects to be discharged next week.
“I am happy to share that I am no longer in the intensive care unit. However, I am still in the hospital. I look forward to going home next week and taking the next step in my recovery,” Van der Sar wrote in his message.
In addition to the text, the 52-year-old Dutchman published a photo in the hospital bed next to his wife, Annemarie.

The former player, idol of the Manchester Unitedwas on vacation in early July on an island in Croatia when he began to feel unwell and was hospitalized.
In May, Van der Sar resigned as Ajax general manager, which he had held since 2016, after the team’s worst season in 14 years: the team finished third in the Dutch league, behind rivals Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.
