The head of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF), Shamil Tarpishchev, spoke about issuing visas to Russian players to participate in the US Open 2023. His words are quoted by TASS.
“There should be no problems with the performance at the US Open, everyone will perform whoever wants. At the moment, none of our tennis players have complained to us, they have not reported any problems, ”the functionary said.
On July 16, the organizers of the Challenger series tournament in the Polish village of Kozerki published an appeal to Russian and Belarusian tennis players with a request to refuse to participate in the competition. “Given the situation in Ukraine, please do not apply for participation in the tournament representing countries such as Russia and Belarus,” they said.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, the Russians continue to play in tournaments under the auspices of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in a neutral status.
