The Morning Consult firm published on its website that fans of this sport in the United States supported the idea of a biennial World Cup with 61%.
A survey of the firm of Morning Consult announced Wednesday that the majority of American fans support holding the soccer World Cup every two years, while Europeans dislike the idea.
According to the data that the firm published on its website, fans of this sport in the United States supported the idea of a biennial World Cup with 61 percent in favor to 15 percent against.
Those numbers that contrast with the response of Western European football fans where the opinion of countries such as Germany, England and France was negative.
Germany was the country with the greatest rejection of the proposal with 66 percent against it to only 28 percent in favor; France had 49 percent against the World Cup every two years, by 37 in favor; and the United Kingdom returned 48 percent in favor, 37 percent against.
Last October, FIFA made official its proposal for the World Cup to be held every two years, instead of every four, starting in 2026.
Immediately the debate was opened between recognized figures of world football with sides that supported and defended the proposal.
The Brazilian Ronaldo, former Real Madrid and Barcelona player; Spaniard Pep Guardiola, current Manchester City manager; Argentine Javier Mascherano, former Barcelona figure; Honduran David Suazo, formerly of Inter Milan, see it favorably.
These figures support the project led by French Arsène Wenger, former Arsenal manager and current FIFA World Football Development Director.
Among the personalities who are against modifying the current period between World Cups are the Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin, president of UEFA, the German Jürgen Klopp, coach of Liverpool; the Welshman Gareth Bale, Real Madrid player.
To these refusals is added the opposition of UEFA and Conmebol. The Morning Consult polls were conducted from November 5 to 18, 2021 among 400-789 soccer fans by country, with margins of error between plus or minus 3 percentage points and plus or minus 5 points. (D)
