The head of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev appreciated the appeal of the organizers of the Polish tournament to Russian players. The words of the functionary leads TASS.
“This is politics, we should not pay attention to it, but play and do our job. If you have a visa, you must go. They won’t let them in – there will be a scandal, ”Tarpishchev said.
Earlier, on July 16, the organizers of the Challenger series tournament in the Polish village of Kozerki published an appeal to Russian and Belarusian tennis players with a request to refuse to participate in the competition. “Given the situation in Ukraine, please do not apply for participation in the tournament representing countries such as Russia and Belarus,” they said.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, the Russians continue to play in tournaments under the auspices of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in a neutral status.
