Michal Kwiatkowski (INEOS Grenadiers) has claimed victory in the 13th stage of the Tour de France which was held this Friday, July 14. The Pole came alone at the end and had time to celebrate the victory achieved at the Grand Colombier.

In the duel between the favorites to win the gala round, Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) scratched 8 seconds from the leader Jonas Vingegaard (Jmbo Visma); the 4 in which he surpassed him at the finish line and another 4 when he was third and obtained the bonus. Therefore, Pogacar was 9 seconds behind the leader Vingegaard in the general classification.

This Friday’s was set to be an important day for the outcome of the Tour, and the race has proved those who thought so right. It has been one of those days in which two parallel fights are established: on the one hand, that of the stage; on the other, that of the general. In that context, Michal Kwiatkowski has been the strongest in the thirteenth stage, while, behind, Tadej Pogacar he has further reduced his deficit with respect to the leader vingegaard; with the eight seconds achieved today (four at the finish line, and another four bonus), He has only nine yellow jerseys, and he seems to be getting better every day. The question is that Vingegaard does not give inand, for the moment, it resists strongly in first place, where it has been installed for more than a week.

The stage, with a route without major difficulties until the start of the Grand Colombier, seemed to offer opportunities to those who had to look for a break, and the truth is that 19 men have gotten into the breakaway of the day. Michael Kwiatkowski (INEOS), Quentin Pacher (Groupama), Alberto Bettiol and James Shaw (EF Education), Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step), Matej Mohoric and Fred Wright (Bahrain), Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek), Adrien Petit , Mike Teunissen and Georg Zimmerman (Intermarché), Nelson Oliveira (Movistar), Hugo Houle (Israel), Luca Mozzato (Arkéa), Maxim Van Gils (Lotto), Cees Bol and Harold Tejada (Astana), Anthon Charmig (Uno-X ) and Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies) they were in it. The group, of great quality, with people who accredit a spectacular track record, seemed to have a run, as has happened.

From behind, Pogacar’s UAE led the pack. With the Grand Colombier at the end of the day, those on the break, from which Petit, Bol and Latour fell before their teammates, increased their pace until they were almost four minutes ahead. The men of the general, however, knew that the climb was hard, as well as long.

Already in the Grand Colombier, Quentin Pacher has been the first to start; Tejada, Van Gils and Shaw immediately caught up and overtook him, but then Michal Kwiatkowski came on hard from behind. The Pole from INEOS immediately achieved a significant advantage, close to a minute with about eight kilometers to go, over Tejada, Van Gils and Shaw, while the peloton, led by Pogacar’s men, was still more than three minutes behind.

The Polish INEOS rider, world champion in 2014 and winner, among other races, of the Clásica de San Sebastián, the Milan-San Remo and the Amstel Gold Race, has carried out a phenomenal ascent. With an excellent pedal stroke, he has perfectly managed the income that he has obtained with his attack, and has won the stage deservedly. It is his second victory in the Tour de France, after the one obtained in 2020.
