The head of the ROC spoke about the refusal of the IOC to invite Russia to the Olympic Games-2024 by July 26

The head of the ROC said that the decision of the IOC not to invite Russia to the Olympic Games 2024 by July 26 is logical

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov spoke about the refusal of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to invite the national teams of Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympic Games by July 26. He commented on the situation in Telegram.

Pozdnyakov stated that it would be impossible to accept the IOC proposal, even if it had been received. “The conditions and criteria put forward to Russian and Belarusian athletes are illegitimate, discriminatory, contrary to the spirit and letter of Russian and international legislation,” he explained.

The head of the ROC stressed that this decision was a logical continuation of the IOC’s policy of neutralizing Russian athletes. “There is no answer to the question – on what legal basis are the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) not invited, which are not affected in any way in their rights, are not suspended and are not subject to any restrictions,” he concluded.

The situation was also assessed by the Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin. He called the decision of the IOC discrimination and violation of the principles of Olympism.

Earlier it became known that on July 26, 2023, 203 NOCs will receive invitations from the IOC to the 2024 Games. It was noted that letters would not come to Russia and Belarus.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.

The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
