Islam Makhachev lost to Jon Jones in the voting for the title of the best fighter of ESPYS-2023
Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev lost to American Jon Jones in voting for the title of the best fighter of the year according to ESPN. This was reported on the publication’s website.
In total, four athletes were included in the number of applicants. In addition to Jones and Makhachev, Briton Leon Edwards and Brazilian Amanda Nunes, the most titled UFC female fighter, also made the list. The 31st Annual Sports Excellence Awards ESPYS-2023 was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles (USA). Fans took part in the voting.
Makhachev is the holder of the UFC lightweight championship belt. On account of the 31-year-old Russian – 24 wins with one defeat. In the previous fight on February 12, he defeated Australian Alex Volkanovski by unanimous decision and defended the championship title for the first time.
Jones is the current UFC heavyweight champion. He has 27 wins and one loss to his credit. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
