With Textor in the stands, Botafogo wins Patronato for the first leg of the South Americana playoff

O Botafogo reached the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana. The alvinegros beat Patronato-ARG by 2-0, this Wednesday, in Argentina.

The cariocas had the support of the American John Textor. The owner of the SAF alvinegra went to Argentina after coach Bruno Lage’s presentation and followed the match in the stands, along with the Botafogo fans. The visitors reached victory in the final stage, with goals from Carlos Alberto and Janderson.

Botafogo will define the way to the round of 16 of the Sudamericana, against Patronato, next Wednesday, at Nilton Santos. The alvinegros can lose by a goal difference that they will advance in the competition.

The game between Patronato and Botafogo

Botafogo started the match in a more organized way. However, the black and white only managed to create their first chance in the 22nd minute, with a header by Carlos Alberto from the bottom line.

Cariocas suffered little with Patronato, but had difficulty creating good moves. So much so that Botafogo only took danger again in the 38th minute, when Carlos Alberto finished once again outside.

Only in the final minutes, the Patronage arrived with quality. Vázquez made a great play and stopped in defense of Lucas Perri. With that, the confrontation remained the same until the break.

Brazilians secure final result

In the second half, Botafogo came back with more intensity and opened the scoring after six minutes. Carlos Alberto took advantage of the launch and finished off Butiño.

Patronato was forced to advance in search of a draw. The Argentines scared with a header by Ghirardello. But Botafogo’s response came in style in the 19th minute. Di Plácido crossed for Janderson to head into the net.

The setback was felt by the owners of the house. So much so that Botafogo almost reached the third, with Junior Santos. This time, Butiño saved the Patronato. The Argentines even put the ball in the net, but the move was canceled due to Esquivel’s impediment.

The bid discouraged the Board of Directors once and for all. With that, Botafogo managed to calmly manage the result in the final minutes to leave the field with a good victory for Argentina.
