Milinkovic-Savic leaves Lazio and signs with Saudi Al Hilal

Serbian midfielder born in Spain Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who was at Lazio, has signed a three-year deal with Al-Hilal, the Saudi club announced on its Twitter account this Wednesday (12).

The contract, which runs until June 2026, was signed in Austria, where the player will focus on pre-season, said the Riyadh club, which recently signed Senegalese Kalidou Koulibaly and Portuguese Ruben Neves.

After eight years at Lazio, the 28-year-old had recently asked for a “change of scenery”, said the club’s president from the Italian capital, Claudio Lotito, on Monday, specifying that the club had received an offer “a little lower to 50 million euros (R$ 268 million at current quotations)”.

Milinkovic-Savic, a player much loved by the ‘tifosi’ of Lazio, played 341 games for the Italian team, scoring 69 goals. He had arrived at the capital club in 2015 and was part of the Italian Cup winning team in 2019.

The departure to Saudi Arabia once again confirms the country’s commitment to acquiring important names in football.

Saudi Arabia champions Al-Ittihad recently signed Frenchmen Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté, while Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr last January. Already the Brazilian Roberto Firmino, ex-Liverpool, signed with Al-Ahli.

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has signed as new manager at Al-Ettifaq.
