In Ukraine, they opposed the deprivation of Sergei Bubka of membership in the NOC due to ties with Russia
A member of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, skeleton skeleton Vladislav Geraskevich, in his Telegram channel, spoke about the decision to punish former pole vaulter and NOC president Serhiy Bubka due to ties with Russia.
Geraskevich said that only he himself voted for the deprivation of Bubka of membership in the NOC. The rest of the meeting participants either abstained or were against it. Geraskevich also said that the commission of athletes of the NOC of Ukraine called the investigation into Bubka the work of the Russian special services, which have always been against the jumper.
On July 11, Geraskevich announced that he had initiated a meeting of the Commission of Athletes of the NOC of Ukraine, which would discuss depriving Bubka of membership in the NOC of the country, as well as depriving him of the honorary title of Hero of Ukraine and other state awards. The reason was the investigation, which stated that the athlete’s family was doing business on the territory of the DPR.
Bubka is an Olympic champion and a six-time winner of world championships as part of the USSR and Ukraine national teams. In 2013, he fought for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee, but lost the election to the German Thomas Bach.
