Barcelona SC and Estudiantes de La Plata will meet this Tuesday (19:00) for a place in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana-2023.

The yellow team fell to this without precedent playoffs which is being played for the first time after finishing third in Group C of the Copa Libertadores, while Estudiantes finished second in Group C Sudamericana.

El Ídolo del Astillero faces this indecision under pressure as he failed to live up to expectations in the first part of the season as he was left out of the Libertadores and did not win the first stage of the Pro Serie A league.

For this reason, their interim coach, Segundo Castillo, will employ the best he has in his quest for victory.

Among the Barcelona SC players who are almost guaranteed a place in the starting 11 are Argentine goalkeeper Javier Burrai, who continues his competitive rhythm after a delicate back injury; midfielders Fernando Gaibor, Leonai Souza and Damián Díaz, and Argentine strikers Jonatan Bauman and Francisco Fydriszewski.

Out of the machine are defender Mario Pineida and offensive midfielder Cristian Ortiz, who underwent surgery due to an injury to the meniscus of the left knee.

For their part, Estudiantes LP will not be able to count on José Sosa and Zaid Romero for this match, who have been left out of coach Eduardo Domínguez’s squad due to injuries. Matías Godoy, due to a bad flu, was dismissed at the last minute.

The match will be played this Tuesday at the Banco Pichincha stadium, starting at 19:00 local time (21:00 Argentine time), and the referees will be Uruguayan Gustavo Tejera and Chilean Ángelo Hermosilla, who will be assisted by VAR.
