The NOC of Ukraine urged to deprive Sergei Bubka of state awards due to ties with Russia

A member of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, skeleton skeleton Vladislav Geraskevich, in his Telegram channel called for depriving the former pole vaulter and president of the country’s NOC, Sergei Bubka, of state awards because of ties with Russia.

Geraskevich said that he had initiated a meeting of the commission of athletes of the NOC of Ukraine, which would discuss depriving Bubka of membership in the NOC of the country, as well as depriving him of the honorary title of Hero of Ukraine and other state awards. He added that he is waiting for a reaction from the country’s NOC.

On July 10, Bihus.Info released an investigation stating that Bubka’s family company Mont Blanc was registered in the Russian register of legal entities. It was noted that the family does business on the territory of the DPR.

Bubka is an Olympic champion and a six-time winner of world championships as part of the USSR and Ukraine national teams. In 2013, he fought for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee, but lost the election to the German Thomas Bach.
