Canadian SKA hockey player Brendan Leipsik expressed his desire to obtain Russian citizenship. This was announced by the head coach of the club Roman Rotenberg in Telegram.
“Laipsik expressed a desire to take Russian citizenship and wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Rotenberg said, stressing that the St. Petersburg club would help the hockey player in obtaining a passport.
Rotenberg said that the athlete has been living in Russia for three years and has become his own here. “In Russia, all these years I have felt exceptionally support from the fans, and from the coaches, and from the partners,” the specialist noted.
Leipsik, 29, joined SKA in June 2023. His contract with the army is for two seasons. The athlete has been playing in the Kontinental Hockey League since 2020, he previously defended the colors of CSKA and Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
Earlier, two Brazilian football players of Zenit, Malcolm and Claudinho, received Russian citizenship. In addition, the Ecuadorian Sochi player Christian Noboa spoke about the imminent receipt of a Russian passport.
