The RFU confirmed that the national team will not play the match with the Medialeague team
Maxim Mitrofanov, Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU), assessed the likelihood of a match between the national team and the Medialiga team. His words are reported by Sport24.
“Play with a Medialeague team? Someone can do a show, but we do sports of the highest achievements. It’s not bad that clubs play with media teams, this is their choice,” Mitrofanov said. He confirmed the decision of the head coach Valery Karpin of the Russian national team not to take part in such matches.
Earlier, Karpin, in a conversation with Sport24, expressed doubt about the need for matches with media teams. “Why should I gather people on vacation? So that they return to their clubs with injuries? he said.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team has lost the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
