After leaving Independiente de Avellaneda in 2020, Barcelona midfielder Fernando Gaibor filed a breach of contract complaint with FIFA over the Argentine club, a case which world football’s rector ruled in favor of the Ecuadorian last March.

Gaibor arrived at Independiente in 2018, and the following season he was loaned to Al Wasl from the United Arab Emirates. In 2020, he had to return to the Argentine club, but the tricolors declared themselves free due to a lack of payments, for which a process was initiated before FIFA.

The entity ruled in favor of Gaibor, and the Avellaneda club is required to pay $2,394,000 in outstanding salary arrears plus 5% annual interest from 2020, when the lawsuit began.

According to the Argentine press, the leadership is in negotiations to reach an agreement on this situation.

“Despite the fact that he left years ago, Fernando Gaibor could bring another complication to Independiente that he has to answer,” the portal wrote in a note. I’m from Red.

“Information shows that talks with his representative have been reactivated after our leaders’ trip to Mexico. In that country, they met with the football player’s agent with the clear aim of negotiating the original debt, which amounts to about 2.4 million dollars,” he added.

The note also criticized the work of the current Barcelona SC midfielder, who they noted “didn’t leave much behind”.

“The balance left by his time at Independiente was not good at all. A fortune was paid to get him out of Emelec and he didn’t leave much behind when he arrived. He played 29 games (not all as a starter), provided four assists and scored four goals,” the site concluded. (D)
