From July 20th to August 20th, Australia and New Zealand will be the capitals of women’s soccerwhen hosting the biggest World Cup in the history of the sport, with the United States as favorites for the second championship.

A total of 32 teams will be divided into ten host cities in search of the world title, which England, Germany and Spain are also candidates for.

It will also be the first time that the biggest women’s football tournament is played in two countries, with a prize of US$ 30,000 (R$ 146,000 at current prices) for each player. The prize goes up to US$ 270 thousand (R$ 1.3 million) for the members of the winning team.

The increase in prizes shows Fifa’s effort to match the conditions of women’s football with men’s, one of the great fights for women in the sport.

The tournament kicks off on July 20th with two games for the host teams: New Zealand against Norway in Auckland and Australia against Ireland in Sydney.

Over the course of a month, the world will be able to follow consecrated veterans who reach what could be their last Worlds, like the Brazilian Marta, 37 years old, and the American Megan Rapinoe, 38 years old.

Together with them, promises of women’s football will debut, such as the skillful Colombian Lina Caicedo, 18 years old, signed by Real Madrid.
