The owner of the Stanley Cup from the Czech Republic Hasek condemned the organizers of Wimbledon for the admission of the Russians
Olympic champion, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek spoke in Twitter on the participation of Russians in Wimbledon 2023.
Cech condemned the admission of athletes from Russia to the tournament. “The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the organizers of Wimbledon are responsible for this. Nevertheless, the government of a country can always ban or expel foreigners!” he noted and wondered if the Czech government would be able to do this at the WTA tournament in August in Prague.
In October 2022, Hasek called on the leaders of the National Hockey League to step down due to their stance on Russia. He said that Commissioner Gary Bettman and his deputy Bill Daley showed disrespect to the Czech Foreign Ministry by allowing Russian players to play in Prague for pre-season league matches.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, the Russians continue to play in tournaments under the auspices of the WTA and ATP in a neutral status.
